Volunteer Opportunities Update

Romero Centre has been very fortunate to have engaged large numbers of volunteers in the last few months, and as such current volunteer opportunities are closed until later in the year or early next year.Romero Centre has been very fortunate to have engaged large numbers of volunteers in the last few months, and as such current volunteer opportunities are closed until later in the year or early next year.

FYI - previous volunteer opportunities already filled
Role: Administration (several positions)
Time: Week days - Office hours
Duties: Answering phones, filing, reception, re-organisation as we start several new programs
Role: Women's Groups Coordinator (two positions)
Time: Tues & Thurs - 9am-2pm plus time for organising and planning activities
Duties: overall coordination of activities such as Yoga, ESL, Cooking, Sewing -, other volunteers facilitate activities and source funding to support the group
Role: Women's Groups Facilitators (several positions)
Time: Tues & Thurs - 9am-2pm plus time for planning activities
Duties: facilitate activities such as Yoga, ESL, Cooking, Sewing etc
Role: Basic Computer Coaching (three positions)
Time: Tuesdays - 12.30- 2.30pm
Duties: teach basic computer use to Women Group members in a friendly and informal environment
Role: Cooking Assistance with Women (3 vols)
Time: Thurs 11am -1pm
Duties: Help plan and document recipes for weekly lunch, organise cooking fundraisers, coordinate participation, promote activity.
Role: ESL Tutors - Community detention families (several positions)
Time: Wed & Friday morning session preferred but can be arranged other times.
Duties: practise basic English skills (at Romero Centre and home tutoring), develop conversation - resources provided.
Role: Volunteering in Detention Centres (several positions)
Time: Need to attend training, held first Thursday of each month. Visits will be coordinated according to person's availability
Duties: Social Support & ESL assistance at Brisbane Immigration Transit Accommodation (BITA) in Pinkeba.
Requirements: Own transport
Role: Volunteers for excursions- Directed Persons Program (15 positions)
This is a 3 months pilot program with the Department of Immigration an information session will be held before program starts.
Time: flexible
Duties: taking families in detention on pre-designated excursions
Requirements: Australian Federal Police Checks before starting, Blue Card (Romero Centre will organise).
Role: Community Detention Team volunteers (several positions)
Time: flexible
Duties: General social and settlement support for young people in community detention. Accompanying to appointments, assisting with understanding systems, helping with homework.
Role: Community Gardener
Time: flexible weekly or fortnightly commitment
Duties: Maintaining and developing the garden at Romero Centre to be welcoming and a beautiful space.
